ITheatre Show: Chris McCausland - Yonks! - September 2025

i write this review two weeks after seeing Chris on tour at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow. Wow, what an experience, i absolutely loved it.

i went to the show after knowing about Chris for a few years from being in one of my childhood shows as well as his many funny appearances on pannel shows, and additionally, from being moved to tears when he and Dianne Buswell won the twentieth series of Strictly Come Dancing. he is such an inspiration to me as a visually impaired person.

Such a fun time! His jokes were absolutely hilarious and he got involved with the crowd and was very pleased and grateful to be there, and that we were there. His timing and storytelling was also perfection and I found every single joke funny/ I honestly don't know how he remembers it all!

there were captions at my performance for the deaf and hard of hearing which was great and it kept up with everything he was saying. it was also nice to see so many blind and visually impaired people at the theatre enjoying the show. i felt so included.

That was also my first time in the Theatre Royal and i will definitely be back; it is gorgeous.

I loved how random the jokes were, and the show was exactly how i imagined. Chris is just as funny here as he is on the TV. i just loved it.  As a younger fan however, I'd advise that you should be at least eighteen or over to see the show, as there was a longer joke in particular with more adult themes. I personally wasn't uncomfortable but some younger people and/or parents may be!

Such a funny show and guy. it is fun, silly humour and stories, while Chris was also his usual down to earth self,  It was the laugh i wanted and needed. the same Chris humour that we know  and love from social media and his many iconic TV appearances, I would highly recommend seeing him if you loved him on strictly or are just in need of a good chuckle.

TV show - Ghosts (2019)

This show is my ultimate confront show. I have rewatched it about 100 times it’s that perfect. It has a huge fanbase, but it’s still underrated and underappreciated by general audiences. If you like shows like Gavin and Stacey and Here We Go, Ghosts is bound to be your next favourite.

The show follows a young couple, Mike and Alison, as they unexpectedly inherit an old manor house which is ‘haunted’ by all the ghosts who have died there, from Robin the caveman all the way to Julian the 90s Tory politician. Alison has an accident leaving her with the ability to see the ghosts while Mike is none the wiser. But the show is way moe than that.

The characters, storytelling, plot and overall aesthetics and world of the show is so unique but true. You believe the living characters are real people and that the dead ones are dead and once lived a full life. Since there’s a wide variety of personalities, there’s something for everyone.  It’s a different, fresh show and it stands out from other UK sitcoms.  With each titular ghost being of a different era of history, there is a variety of tones, dialogue and one liners, so even though they may be bored of each other's company, the audience is constantly being entertained with the very different personalities and beats of the characters and how they interact with each other and react to the modern world, which is also quite fascinating and one of the many reasons for audiences to stay hooked.

The main cast were the original cast from sketch show Horrible Histories and six of them created the show together. It is evident they are having a ball making this show and that they all get on well,  which furthers my enjoyment of it. Newcomers Charlotte Ritchie, Kiell Smith-Bynoe and Lolly Adefope fit in seamlessly and everyone bounces off each other so well. The couple’s struggle with the new house is real, especially with Alison constantly seeing the ghosts. The comedy is very silly but delightful. There are laugh out loud moments which can often be unexpected and little, quick, perfect character moments that you miss but after time to fully process, you’ll die with laughter and realise it's the funniest type of humour and that each comic beat is flawless for the show. These parts are acted out to perfection, but the more serious and tender moments are also excellently handled, and I feel emotionally connected to all the characters like they’re my friends. There are death scenes that have the perfect mix of comedy and tragedy. It's hard to do; laugh at death. But the show is a brilliant exception. Absolutely no notes for the death scenes, they are impeccable.  The talent and range of the cast is fantastic.

Each series is structured in a way that every plotline gets a chance to breathe and are all set up tied up satisfactorily. The cinematography, direction and visuals are stunning. These along with the sound and costume design blend together and compliment the script and performances amazingly. The scripts are so smart. As well as being funny, the audience is always left curious about certain characters as not everything is spelled out for us. With the genius scriptwriting we have enough to know what happened, but we also have room to come up with our own theories. The show is also very inclusive and suitable for most audiences. The Christmas episodes are the perfect present for the festive season. Although the last ever episode, A Christmas Gift, while still entertaining and fun, just missed the mark mainly because I knew the show was ending but some of the clever scriptwriting was lost. But still a funny and relatable episode.

It’s a good sign if you want a show back. Ghosts is a 10/10 for is incredible character and script work, locations and direction, smart humour and overall joyfulness and uplifting themes. You can identify with the characters and feel so invested in their lives or afterlives, through the good and the bad. It is hilarious, and the performances are top tier. The sense of community and togetherness is extremely comforting.  It's a must watch and a show I wish I could experience for the first time again.
